Went for a walk up to Crater Lake today. It was 4 degrees at the upper parking lot of Hudson Bay when we started off this morning. There is a 4 cm thick breakable crust on the surface of the snow from the recent rain and warm weather. This made for crunchy walking conditions.
Winds were strong from the southwest at treeline and above all day, transporting what dry snow there was left on the surface. The alpine is severley wind hammered and ski conditions were difficult due to the punchy and crusty surface.
We did not observe any avalanches today, but visibility was poor.
