New surface hoar layer, developed sometime between Jan 25-28. Very large feathery hoar crystals at base of acidophilus, the crystals were noticeably larger in pillow fields and openings when compared to tighter trees. There was still surface hoar present in the trees however, just smaller crystal size (0.5-1cm?) I would anticipate that this layer will be very touchy with the new storm cycle coming on Jan 30. Surface hoar crystals range from 1-5cm in size at 1750m elevation, northeast aspect, pictures shown of the large crystals were taken in the larger openings with minimal tree cover on the climb up.
