Ozalenka

4 days at Ozalenka Cabin in the N. Cariboos (190122-190125). Several old avalanches (>48hrs, seen on 190122) were obs. up to sz 2.5. Two Sc sz 1 soft slab avalanches on steep NW slopes @2050m on 190123 (see pic). Failures were down 20cms (HST), were 10m wide and ran for 80m, likely failed on mid-Jan. SH layer. Skied SE-NW slopes up to 40 degrees. Heavily wind-affected in ALP, but good skiing could be found in sheltered locations at TL and ALP elevations. Sled ride and ski in on supportive snow. HS150 at cabin, up to 200cms in ALP. No SP or SC results in any of our pits, and failures only occurring in top 25cms of snowpack. Mid and lower snowpack well-settled and strong.
