Quick report

Red Flags
Recent Avalanches, Cracking, Rapid Warming, Poor Snowpack Structure

Our route today took us through Gold Hill basin, Whitney Reservoir, Double Hill and Humpy creek. Along our route we encountered several avalanches that appeared to be naturally triggered from the last storm and one possibly sled triggered. All of the slides appeared to have broke on the drought layer facets that formed in Jan and Feb.

Instability Comment

The PWL from the Jan-Feb drought is alive and well. We performed a ECT on a NE facing slope near Windy Peak at around 9,000 feet. ECTP 11 (11 taps on the shovel) resulted in full propogation at about 2' in depth on the old snow/new snow interface.
