Quick Observation

The day started with a solid melt freeze crust, but quickly warmed in the sun. We saw plenty of recent avalanches which likely failed overnight Mon-Tues: a very large slab avalanche on a steep east aspect in the alpine and dry loose avalanches to size 2. We also saw several large wet-loose avalanches that likely failed on Tuesday afternoon in the sun. By 1pm, the surface snow was moist to about 2000 m and small pin wheeling began, higher up west winds were blowing snow at ridgetop.
