We tried to get up the North Face of Ursus Major today, but turned around just before the choke. We pole-probed around 60cm of wind affected snow (roughly 4 finger density) sitting on top of a very hard layer (pencil or harder), which we're guessing formed during a wind event mid storm. Although there was over 320cm snow in most places on the glacier, there were lots of open crevasses and we were choosing our routes carefully.
