Quick report
Traveled over ball butte and onto the E shoulder of broken top as well as into the crater. Snow surface varies widely but is improved over the last few days. Skies started broken becoming overcast, with warming and green housing around 10-11, then cooling wind arriving around noon. E-NE aspects have increased wind slab since 2 days ago, including mid-slope. Hand pit NE aspect 7800’ with 4F over 4F+ wind slap atop the crust, still with some weak snow above the crust but stubborn and nonreactive. No movement with ski cutting at the ridge. No shooting cracks or collapsing. Seems like more of a stubborn hard slab problem that is unlikely in all but select locations. Maybe a touch more reactive when the warmup comes and then disappearing. W-SW-S there was 2” of damp new snow over the melt crust, adherent and skiing well. Some small rollerballs by noon. Moderate morning warming was limited by wind and clouds by noon. No wind transport observed. Some cornices on E aspects in the crater are pretty large.
Avalanche
Observed the previously noted windslab on Ne aspect on the shoulder of ball. There has been interim wind transport into the same area, partially obscuring the crown and debris.
