Snowpack

Instability Comment

Lots of spacial variability today. I seemed to be in falling snow all afternoon with sunny slopes around me. Anything touched by the sun got wet quickly, aided by a little greenhousing. Due N facing stayed pretty soft and dry. Found 5 to 10 inches of new snow, increasing rapidly with elevation. Wind was light and variable while I was out but there was evidence of some wind xport earlier. The new snow seemed to be sticking well to the hard base and I poked at a few steeper runs with no results, including rollerballs

I saw some evidence of high points blown clear of fresh snow, but no evidence of obvious slab formation, cracking, or collapsing. Overnight wind with a northerly component could cause some new windloading but other aspect seemed too wet to transport. I got a couple of good leeward slope cuts with no results.
