Wind Loading, Cracking, Collapsing, Poor Snowpack Structure

Cracking, collapsing, and whomphing was constant in the unskied parts of the glades this morning (mostly W facing aspect), all on terrain that was well under 30 deg. Even the most boring terrain in the Wasatch is not immune from the effects of this horrid snowpack structure. The snow is no more than a couple feet deep in the glades with lots of downed trees, stumps, and sticks still catching gear with ease. The east facing aspects on the W side of the drainage are either nearly bare to dirt or heavily windloaded in the upper open areas.
