Mail Cabin

Mail Cabin received 2 - 3 inches of new snow over the past 24 hours - containing a micture of graupel and stellars. Today, even with colder temperatures, snow was starting to show sigsn of warming with new snow becoming moist. South and east aspects developed a crust to 8600' by late afternoon. North aspects below 7700' developed a 4-5 cm (almost supportable) crust during warmer temperatures and precipiation yesterday. At 8600', SW winds had developed isolated pockets of wind loaded snow on ridgelines. We saw isolated cracking in these pockets - which where 6 - 10 inches deep - but no propensity to slide. We also observed 2 small (D1) wet loose avalanches around 7500' on east facing terrain that appear to have slid yesterday. 

Dug at 8300' on a north aspect in Mail Cabin. HS 252cm: ECTN8 down  5cm and ECTN17 down 45cm.

Observed cracking isolated to north and east facing ridgtops at 8500'. Cracks were small propogating no further than 10 feet on steep terrain.
