- <p>The poor snowpack structure is out there. While we did not find it in our pit, I don't believe our results are indicative of the majority of areas. </p>
Wanted to get a good look at the snow and get in touch with what's out there as I begin my season in earnest. The results of my pit profile were surprising and I'm willing to chalk them up to site selection and spatial variability. While I found facets in the ground layer, they were not at all as large as I thought they would be. Overall stability of the snowpack was good and ECT produced no result. No red flags were noted during the day in my areas of travel.

- <p>The persistent weak layer is certainly out there and lurking. I haven't gotten out much yet this season and as such chose areas that I knew were likely to have limited issue with the persistent weak layer. It's way early and even though we have great skiing conditions, I feel no rush to get into more northerly aspects. </p>
