Quick report
Took the snowmobile near the top of the Tunnel Rd. Ran into the forecasters who I’m sure will have a more detailed report. During the skin in, there was a noticeable 1-2” crust at lower elevations which turned into unconsolidated heavy snow as we continued to climb. There were signs of roller balls on most Northerly aspects although I didn’t notice any running today despite temps at or above freezing. No wind affected snow noted. We dug a quick pit on the saddle at approx 6200’ on a WNW slope. Total snow depth approx 230cm, ECTX. A thick crust layer was noted approx 45-50cm deep that didn’t react to an ECT but when I pried with the shovel it slid on that layer. We skied a densely treed WNW slope and found decent heavy snow but ended up in terrain a bit steeper than we planned. No instability noted but again it was very densely treed. And the bush still exists in all drainages!
