Loneman Lookout
Quick report
Took a walk in the middle fork to enjoy the fall colors and tranquil weather. Recent snowfall on the high peaks got us thinking ahead to the next season. No snow observed until we reached about 6500’. Above that, the snow coverage was thin and dusty up to our high point of 7181’. Looking across the valley at the shady start zones of the Flathead Range, we observed more of the same. Coverage seemed negligible until about 7500’ where there was more continuous snow cover. Looking into Glacier Park, we noticed more substantial coverage on some of the high peaks closer to the divide. Especially on Gunsight Mountain, Mount Jackson, and Vulture Peak. On high peaks like these, we’d expect that some of the shaded slopes favored by wind loading might be holding up to a foot in the upper elevation start zones None
