This was my first pit of the season and I have to say the sound of trickling snow melt from both the snow pack and surrounding snow that hung on trees was reminiscent of a late March or April day. Needless to say I am hopeful that the continued warm temps and high pressure will allow our persistent weak layer to heal. Hopefully this is the silver lining of our early December thaw and then we will get the snow we have all been waiting for! Until then riding conditions are kind of fun and spongy up high and manky and spring like down low.

Surface snow was getting damp. Noticed a stiff windslab between 58cm and 44cm from ground that was pencil hardness. Did notice a non reactive planer interface at 44cm but only when I was removing CT and ECT debris from pit (photo). Seems to be bridging and felt stable under my skis.I was surprised at how I was still able to get CT and ECT PC Moderate results on the depth hoar.
