Quick report
Eager to touch some soft snow, Eric and I hiked to the top of Gray Butte to assess the coverage. This weekend's storm provided around 10 inches (25cm) of new snow, on top of 5 inches (15cm) of older preexisting snow. As we suspected, no skiing was to be had just yet. A 90 mph gust was reported from the Gray Butte weather station overnight!

Snowpack
Despite the new snow, the snowpack is still pretty thin. At 8,000 feet, we found about 15 inches (40cm) on top of dirt. Below treeline, a prevalent rain crust could be felt on all observed terrain. Near treeline, the rain crust became slightly less prominent. The snow depth was also slightly variable due to scouring and loading from the recent winds.
