Quick report

Wind slab with basal crack — did not trigger, did not release. Wind slab deposited on northeast-facing terrain adjacent to Gulfside Trail. Slab was smooth and continuous with no rock interruption between it and the cliff/ravine edge on the Great Gulf side. Observed a crack approximately 4–6 inches deep running beneath the slab, indicating partial failure from underlying layer. Slab appeared to be from recent loading event (overnight southwest winds). Avoided the feature and routed off-trail onto alpine vegetation. Another party had seemingly walked (footprints) through the area without incident but the slab remained intact and cracked. Date/Time: April 12, 2026 — note AM or PM and approximate time if you remember Red flags observed: Crack in snowpack, smooth uninterrupted runout to drop, recent wind loading evident from surrounding scour pattern.
