Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
We consistently found small isolated wind slabs in Dodge’s drop and when crossing over from the bottom of Dodge’s drop to Stovepipe. The slabs were in wind protected areas and isolated by patches of vegetation or terrain features. On some of these patches we experienced shooting cracks up to 1.5m while skiing. When bootpacking in Dodge’s we also experienced this some isolated cracking. In general the snowpack offered varied levels of support. We would sometimes sink hip deep and other times be on our toes. The same goes for skiing. Variable to say the least! The observed slab problem did not concern our group as all the slab pockets we saw were never big enough to burry someone or connected to other terrain/snow. Shooting cracks on isolated and small wind slabs on NE aspects. These slabs were in wind protected areas in the ski lines and sheltered by vegetation patches and terrain features.
