Skies were broken with moderate west winds. Light blowing snow. Air temp -10 C, slope angle 37 degrees. Snow depth 235cm. I dug a full profile pit and performed compression and extended column tests. CTE6 Q1 at 195cm. ECTN9 PC at 135cm. No fractures deeper in the snowpack with destructive testing. After performing the tests, I bootpacked higher into Main Gully. The snow surface in the gully was more supportable than the more sheltered locations of my pit. Blowing snow and saltation filled in the steps of a previous bootpack from a few hours before. Higher up above the ice bulge was a thin wind slab that cracked with boot steps. The very top of the gully was scoured down to the 1/10 crust. Above the ice bulge in Main Gully, I observed a thin, fist hard wind slab (1-3in thick) that cracked upon boot steps. While transitioning, wind continued to intensify and moderate blowing snow followed. I imagine with continued wind loading and new snow this layer will continue to grow.
