Quick report
Our group traveled in the lower reaches of Hillmans Highway between 930-1030, our high point being around the Christmas Tree. Above 4,000', the sky had few clouds but rising undercast below. Winds were calm. The snow surface consisted of light density snow over a firm crust. Wind effect was minimal. Depth of the new snow was generally around 2-3", but with isolated pockets of 3-5". In these pockets, snow was slightly harder in character, but cracking was limited and never extended more than a foot or two from our boots. The firm crust underneath ranged from fast but edgeable, to the type of snow you point your skis sideways on and slide until something slows you down. The skiing on the Sherburne, however, was noticeably better than over the weekend with the extra dusting.
