Quick report
- Cracking
- specific
Found obvious signs of instabiltiy right off the bat with cracking on wind loaded W aspects around 9000'. This was common on most slopes in open and exposed leeward/cross loaded terrain above 9000'. Around 8" of new snow with wind drifted areas 16" deep. New snow sits on a widespread poor interface consisting of facets and surface hoar. New snow was slabbing up on this exposed terrain and primed for avalanches. Poor visibility but no natural activity observed. Light snow flurries until 1500.
Cracking found on leeward and cross loaded terrain from S/SW winds 10-20 mph.Snowpack
New to old snow interface is the main concern, as new snow sits on widespread well developed facets across all elevations and aspects. Propagation initiation on this interface required wind drifted slabs of new snow. Below n/o interface lies 4F to 1F hard slabs. The base of the snowpack consists of very weak facets and depth hoar. Dug a pit on a NW aspect at 10,000': ECTP15 down 35cm on surface hoar and very weak facets (.5-1mm). Surprisingly no propagation on November drought layer (12/1).
