Lee Vining area. Warming on solars Cold on polars

Our observations were largely focused on the effects of warming today.
Surface snow was warming on solar aspects today near and below the treeline (2-5 cm around 11 am), with moist snow noted in areas with indirect sun and in more shaded aspects at lower elevations. In shaded areas above 8000'-8500', surface snow remained cold and dry. This stark difference was obvious when transitioning from solar slopes to more shaded aspects or vise versa.
While ascending a solar aspect around 9500', it was easy to kick off some small rollerballs. And I noted several fans of roller balls in steep rocky areas in direct sun.
I triggered a small loose dry sluff on a steep north-facing slope at ~10,000'
All in all, it was a pretty good day in the hills.
