Birdwood - Smutwood Pass

We had observed some minor sloughing on hard surface until this incident.  But this avalanche failed about 15cm below the 50 cm of fresh. So the crown was about 65cm deep. At the crown, the lower 15cm layer undercut the fresh snow.  Surface snow was really starting to warm up with the afternoon solar and temperature on this aspect. 

1 person was pushed back about 2m into a tree and buried to mid thigh - still standing.
