Quick report
Mostly sloughing of top loose/windblown powder. No cracking, whomping, or collapsing. Sun crust over 4-6” dry loose powder down to hard crust/brick. High winds at elevation, partly sunny, no precipitation. Ample wind scouring and wind deposits with top soft powder easily sloughing off while skinning up and skiing down. Dug a pit at 6400’ elevation on a North aspect 20-25 degree wind loaded rollover. Pit test results: probed to 205cm deep, top 10cm easily failed while cutting back of column, the column failed again on ice block later (which was 70cm thick) at 26 taps, the pack was mostly right side up until 100cm down it became soft again where the column eventually failed after Phil’s 6 carefully calibrated full body jumps.
Avalanche
Middle Chiwaukum/McCue Ridge, south facing aspects had natural D1 wet loose as recent today through a few days ago. Also natural older crowns on high angle north facing aspects.
