Quick report
We toured from Goose Lake Rd at 6700 feet starting at ~ 930am. Temp was below freezing, and morning fog was beginning to lift. We knew the area had received up to 20 inches of new snow by EOD Thursday 4/2 and that the storm had come in warm and gotten colder so were hopeful for a bonded snowpack. Some of our group had skied the previous afternoon at similar elevation and observed sun already impacting the snow surfaces, particularly on the south and east and as we started the climb to the southwest, we noticed some crust on exposed east-facing slopes. As we climbed the sun came out and it remained mostly sunny, with some intermittent cloud cover for the remainder of the tour. We topped out at ~8500 feet and found some wind-effect on ridgelines and at the tops of north-facing slopes that resulted in a little bit of sluff, but snow was generally very well-bonded. We observed point releases and increasing (through the day) small, wet loose activity across an east-facing bowl at similar elevation. In the morning, below ridgetops, snow on north-facing slopes had stayed cold and was not impacted by the sun or temperatures the previous afternoon, however by about 1230/1pm with rising temps and clear skies, snow below about 7500 ft in the sun quickly started to become wet and heavier.
