Quick Observation

Great day skiing Young’s Peak and Seven steps. Snow quality has slightly dererioated in the Alpine due to wind. The sun did come out in the afternoon. Temps were -7 at 2600 m at 12:00 and -2 at 14:30 at 1600 m. Lower west and south facing slopes got baked and had heavy wet snow by 14:00. The best snow quality is on sheltered north and east aspects which still hold great powder. We did not find the buried crust on the Young’s headwall, but did have a variety or SP and RP hand shears down 40cm on a weak layer ascending west facing slopes at 2400 to 2600m. We did not have any whoomphfing, cracking and did not trigger any slabs when skiing. We observed one small size 1 wet slough out of steep solar aspect, it did not trigger a larger slide. We observed people skiing Forever Young and Thornington, with only sloughing. Great day.
