Went for a tour de surface conditions before the arrival of our long awaited storm. Despite high cirrus clouds, SW facing terrain @ 4k had sufficiently warmed by 12:00 for the top 2cms to corn up and slide readily on the lower mf crust. The NE facing terrain approaching pineapple basin harbored a few cms of weak snow where tree cover was not present. Within the pineapple basin, found: 0.1 to 0.3mm nsf on a protected N facing aspect @ 4900ft. 1cm mf crust on W facing terrain @ 5200ft. Sun affected SH up to 6mm on E/SE facing terrain @ 4700ft. SH up to 8mm on NE facing terrain @ 4800ft. Overall, incredibly variable surface conditions ranging from isolated pockets of older windslab to recycled pow and mf crust. Anticipating an increase in uncertainty with the arrival of a significant load.
