Quick report
My group was planning to climb Lundin Peak on Wednesday. We started at 5 AM, and made it up to the West ridge around 10 AM. Snow on the way up was reasonably firm, but soft enough to not need crampons - not frozen overnight. We climbed the first ~pitch of 4th class climbing, and ended up turning around due to a lot of snow on the scramble/traverse section on the N/NW aspect. I expect the route won't melt out for a while still. On the way back down, we very easily triggered slides in the bowl below the ridge. My first step onto the snow from a rappel anchor triggered a ~D2 slide. To get out safely, we traversed to some lower angle snow - set up a belay for myself, so I could trigger as much of the top layer to slide as possible - and then walked down the cleared avalanche path onto lower angle terrain through the debris.
Avalanche
- multiple ~D2-D3 avalanches in the area that were likely triggered earlier in the week (all point release + wet loose), unsure about trigger - triggered multiple D2 size avalanches while exiting, all point release + wet loose
