Ophir Peak

Rain and one to two inches of new snow, combined with a refreeze last night, resulted in relatively consistent conditions. The rain crust supported us when we traveled on skis but would break under our feet once we stepped off our skis. We did not see any signs of current instability or previous unstable wet snow. 

A thin layer of fresh snow rested on top of a rain crust up to the top of Ophir Peak at 9200 ft. Below the rain crust, softer, drier snow existed with well-bonded layers of snow down to the old snow that got buried on Dec 12. These old snow layers have also gained strength and tests on these layers did not indicate current instability.
