A bit of a mixed bag today. Started off the day at - 20C as we left the car at 8am. The temperature rose rapidly from this point on would estimate about 5 degrees an hour. When we returned to the car around 1pm we recorded - 5C. We skinned the West face into treeline of the burn and had a lot of difficulty setting track when we ventured off the established skin track. 10cm of poorly bonded snow to the Feb 19 interface caused us to slide out while side hilling, this layer also made for tricky conditions on the descent. We dug a pit at approx 2200M on a West aspect. The snow pack depth was between 85-100CM, we produced a failure 35cm down after 5 elbow taps. The majority of the snow pack below the 10CM from the last storm was un consolidated facets. As the snow warmed it became very sticky making skiing in low angle terrain difficult. We opted to end the day after one lap due to the increase in temperature.
