Recent Avalanches at the Onion

Northwest Inland

AvCan Northwest , Wednesday 8th January, 2025 4:15PM

We got above the valley fog in the Babines today, and had blue skies and moderate southwest winds. We observed several avalanches between size 1.5 and size 2. Most avalanches observed were natural wind slabs, likely releasing in the last 24hrs. We suspect one of the larger avalanches (size 2) failed on facets above the early-December crust in a wind loaded area. All avalanches were observed in steep, wind loaded terrain, near or at ridge-tops. Avalanche hazard is expected to increase again with tomorrow's new snow and wind.
