Mountain Conditions Report

Travel conditions in the Howson Range in Burnie-Shea Provincial Park are excellent right now. There is little ice showing on the glaciers below 1800 m. The snow is firm but not hard and crevasses are well bridged. Descents can be made on snow down to 1600 m even on sunny aspects. Crampons are not necessary for the Burnie Step, the Solitaire Glacier, and the Loft Glacier. All trails and bridges are in good condition. I saw only one collapse of a snowfield on the smooth slabs of the Loft. Otherwise snow conditions are stable. The few remaining cornices have melted far back and are not of concern.
