<p>Report from AST course: frequent large whumpfs accompanied by snappy shooting cracks, all on the mid-jan crust/facet interface. Upper snow was generally rock hard wind slab but variable conditions included patches of surface hoar, new sun crust and pockets of facets. No new avalanches triggered or observed but we stayed on mellow simple terrain. CTM13 sudden collapse down 50cm on the jan 13 layer at a wind loaded east facing site 1100m.</p>
