Our group toured up Crystal Ridge today. We dug multiple pits looking to assess conditions on the East side of the Parkway. We found sun crust on steep solar aspects up to 2250 meters. Snow at the tree line and in open areas is wind affected. 15-20 cms new snow.
Lightly snowing all day, very fine snow.
At 14:30 we dug a pit at tree line looking for windslab. 2400M, WSW aspect. ECTNR. The CT failed at 120 cm depth on facets. CTH27. Slope angle was 15 degrees. 145 cm total depth. Our earlier pit in the trees was on steeper 30 degree slope. At 2180M on a WSW aspect. ECTNR. The CT failed on facets at 115 cm depth. CTH25. 155 cm total depth. The image is from the 2400M pit.
