Quick Observation

The natural avalanche cycle seems to be slowing down in Bijoux. We rode Treeline and Below Treeline, with the best snow in small tree openings. As previously noticed, anything not sheltered is blasted, with large cornice formations on all north east ridges. We saw lots of the avalanches reported in the last day or so, but nothing less than 24-48 hrs old. We rode aggressively on small wind loaded features and couldn’t trigger any releases. We did trigger a small (3m) cornice but we had to really work for it. Snowpack is well set up and solid at all elevations but not much pow left except for the creek bottoms and dense tree lines. Warm, -4° and no wind all day. Brief snow showers in mid afternoon. We’re ready for more snow now!
