Silver Peak

We toured the E Ridge and E Bowl avalanche path on Silver Peak today. Over the past week the Pole Creek Rd approach has melted significantly. Numerous sections of bare ground exist along the approach/exit route, mainly below 7,000'. As in other locations, true S aspect slopes are melted to bare ground. SE aspects are patchy at 8,000'. E to NE aspect terrain continues to hold mostly continuous snow cover.

Last night's snow surface refreeze in this area consisted of the top 7 inches of the snowpack. First thing in the morning this refreeze was K hard. By noon at 7,800, the refreeze was melted to 1 F hard on E aspects and becoming unsupportable in some areas on SE aspects. There were numerous signs indicating that drainage is well established in the snowpack in this area with open flowing creeks and waterfalls.
