Maggies

We toured around Maggies Peak today. Crossing over the south-facing slopes above Cascade Falls this morning, the snow was firm and clearly gone through several melt freeze cycles. Once we gained more elevation in the canyon and moved onto north-facing terrain, the snow was soft and wintry. We observed surface hoar low in the canyon. On north-facing sheltered terrain, the upper snow had undergone some near surface faceting. Looking at the south face of Maggies, we could see evidence of previous avalanche activity but observed minimal recent loose wet activity. On slightly west-facing terrain, we did create some roller balls in the afternoon at lower elevations. The snow around 6600' (our lowest point) on north-facing terrain at 3 pm was wet and displayed some loose wet characteristics in response to ski turns.
