Monument Pass

By 11am, it was already too late for my first choice - a SE aspect at just under 10,000ft. Although snow was supportable to my skis, roller balls were easy to initiate and looked likely to entrain further snow given the right terrain features. I also noticed how easy it was to push the basket side of my poles right past the supportable surface and down another foot into unconsolidated wet snow. Someone else had skied the same line yesterday, and was also too late, leaving deep trenches and a D1.5 wet loose debris pile. I went elsewhere and found more supportable snow on an aspect receiving indirect sun. Great views of big surrounding peaks, including Jobs, Jobs Sister, Freel, the South Bowls of Tallac, Emerald Bay Chutes, etc. Many features were getting strong input from the sun, but I didn't see any natural wet loose activity.
