Quick report

Hs 170, aspect E, elevation 6400, sky overcast, wind light variable west, temp, below 32, ski pen 10 cm, snow was quite stiff, even in protected trees, pit revealed a mid storm discontinuity, reactive but not displacing. A layer of buried surface hoar 40 cm below surface was reactive and easily displaced, the failure occurred on top of the buried facets. Elements further down the colum showed signs of weakness but were relatively stable compared to the 40 cm buried facets. We scaled back out ski plans, skiing lower angle slopes, conditions in open terrain were much more wind effected.
