Another day of a sharp inversions. Valley temps struggled to climb into the double digits, but above 5500 ft I found pleasant temperatures in the 20's and very light NW winds.
Snowpack
I went out to investigate how high the freezing rain crust extends on the south side. Unfortunately, I found it up to my high point at 8500 ft. However, above 8000 ft it started getting a little more brittle and more manageable to travel over. At these elevations and higher, I also noted a small amount of dry snow available for transport. With this, I was able to locate dry, stiff slabs ( 1F-P hard) of wind-drifted snow on the upper East aspects of the White River. East winds have been at work eroding cornices along the upper ridge as well.
Generally, I've been finding much better travel conditions at lower elevations below 5000 ft where it's staying bitterly cold.
