Quick report
- Cracking
- widespread
Observed widespread instability while traveling in non-committing terrain. Small convex test slopes were very reactive — skier triggered shooting cracks and small slabs easily with ski cuts and jumping on rollovers. Due to consistent propagation on test features, we avoided avalanche terrain for the duration of the trip. No formal pit performed, but reactivity was obvious through repeated slope tests. Behavior suggested a cohesive slab over a weak interface. Instability appeared sensitive to a single skier. Overall assessment: Poor structure and high triggerability. Chose terrain <30° with no overhead hazard.
