Weather today was 6F when started. Once you climbed up a few hundred feet to mid elevations it got warm with No to light wind. At upper elevation 8,500-9,000ft the wind picked up and got colder to where it was keeping the snow cold. The sun was doing a number on sun exposures aspects in the mid elevations to lower elevations as the day went on. Mid elevation snow became heavy and mushy. The wind really blew the day before up here it stiffened up the snow pretty good even in some trees areas . Even though the forecast dropped the danger rating to moderate we did not trust the snowpack in steeper terrain. Most of the steep terrain up there looks to very wind loaded and we did not trust the snowpack from possible avalanches. I suspect that there will be snow point releases or even some avalanches triggered in sun affect steep slopes with another warm day tomorrow. Som mid elevations slopes even had some surface hoar starting to form.
