Quick report
Toured to the south of Mount Fuji today. Temperatures stayed between 28-29F throughout most of the day (trending near above freezing in the afternoon), light winds in the morning from the SSW and picking up in the afternoon with moderate gusts, overcast sky, light snowfall in the morning that picked up around 2pm then transitioned to sleet/rain by 4:30pm. Dug a snow pit on a SW aspect @ 5556ft (HS = 105cm). Test results showed no propagation, however, facets existing above and below the upper melt freeze crusts (MFC @ 93cm and MFC @ 70cm) presented failure upon initiation. Facets at the ground seemed to be healing: grains were wet and I was able to make a snowball with them. We traveled cautiously and stuck to terrain below 30 degrees with the anticipation of new snow and strong winds adding load to existing buried weak layers today. New snow up higher seemed to be less dense, while new snow towards the bottom of the run seemed more dense and wet/sticky.
