Another day, another foot+ of blower powder. All tracks from Sunday were gone. Great skiing besides the incident mentioned.
Avalanche
Observed a number of rider-triggered storm slab avalanches on various aspects to size 1, crowns 6-20". I was caught at the end of the day in Blueberry chute by a chunk of hangfire that inadvertently released. Contributing heuristic traps: End of the day "get to the car mindset", scarcity (driving us to seek a line with less tracks), tracks (assumed I would be safe dropping in between two tracks from earlier and knowing that a slab had already been triggered), and familiarity. Incident might have been avoided with better visibility, allowing me to better see the entrance, or we could have just left this terrain for another day. My partner had already ridden down without incident, but took a route that avoided the hangfire. After entering and triggering the slab, I tried to escape but crashed in the previous bed surface and was washed over by the slide. I was carried maybe 10' and was not buried or injured. Consequences would have been bad for a burial because my partner was far away at the bottom of the slope.
