Quick Observation

Ascended and descended along approximate route of Plewman Trail to Old Glory summit. Crustiness made for challenging skinning, but ski descents were ok. Avoided steep east face of Old Glory due to observed size 1 avalanche debris and risk of long sliding falls.

Avalanche Information

Observed numerous sluffs (all aspects) and small slides up to size 1 (on steep E and NE faces of Old Glory) from ~5 cm of new snow shower that fell between Thursday night and Friday afternoon. Size 1 slide debris were observed from 500-1000 m away while ascending Old Glory approximately along the route of the hiking trail. Probably not big enough to bury a person but could cause a fall in high consequence terrain. Did not see any slides directly but debris seemed to increase throughout the day. The crust underlying the small amount of new snow makes for a very slippery bed surface.

Weather

Broken clouds with on/off snow showers all day. A few brief glimpses of sun.

Snowpack

5cm of new snow from the previous 24 hours was present in most locations. There was also a widespread melt-freeze crust ranging from zipper texture to breakable to impenetrable. Ski descents were OK but ascents were challenging on skins (no crampons) due to widespread slipping and crust variability.
