Surprisingly excellent and wintry powder day in April. We found 30 cm of overnight snow above around 1700 m, which thinned at lower elevations. We saw a few small (size 1) wind slabs out of steep northerly terrain around 2300 m, and suspect the slabs continued to build over the day with strong southerly wind blowing the snow around. On south aspects, minor wind affect was noted in the alpine but just good snow without slab properties at treeline and below. The day varied each hour, switching from bluebird to stormy convective squalls with large graupel.
