Quick Observation
Did a Zola to R2ski2 to Couloir of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints loop. Good travel conditions thanks to the new dry snow just holding on the MFcr. There’s a ridiculous amount of very low density powder available in sheltered terrain from BTL to ALP which was present on every part of our route except high ALP ridgetops facing S. Best snow was found on N aspects. We stayed away from steep and very open N facing terrain, not feeling the numerous amounts of snow received in the past weeks combine with the rain, wind or sun events in between. Monkey Bowl’s entrance felt just as spooky as 10 days ago went we found a hollow facetting layer below the upper snowpack on that steep slightly convex entrance. We found more sheltered terrain and skied deep conditions with lots of precautions. Along with the very long crowns found in the ALP around Shames, we witnessed a variety of big deposits, mostly below the steep drainages in the Zola area, from last week’s big avy cycle. Some ran sz3. The day was mostly clear, and calm.
