Was hiking towards Sparrowhawk tarns in the valley at around 2000m, when we saw 3 (and heard a 4th) avalanches coming off the North face of Red Ridge down the various gullies. They were size 1's in terms of volume, but the concentration in the gullies, would have increased the consequence. They came down between 12:45pm and 2:00pm. They seemed to be point releases, either from cornice failure or melting (it was about +5C). We were surprised by the size and frequency of the avalanches given the seemingly low amount of snow overall, and so thought it worth reporting.
Saw 3 (and heard a 4th) size 1 avalanches come off the North face of Red ridge. They all occurred from 12:45pm to 2pm. Because we were far away from the slides, all measurements are estimates.
It was calm in the valley, but clouds were moving fast up high.
