Weather
Few to scattered clouds. Temperatures started off in the teens and quickly warmed into the low 30s. Light winds increased to moderate by the end of the day, although for most of the day, they were calm, and I couldn't discern direction.
Snowpack
At lower elevations, a recently developed slab is sitting on a weak and faceted snowpack. On the north half of the compass, cracking and collapsing were widespread. Near treeline, and likely above treeline too, the new slab is sitting on a variety of denser, wind-packed layers and crusts above weak layers in the upper snowpack. Similar weak layers to what we've seen in the Gore and Front Ranges - soft, faceted layers formed in early February and late January between wind-packed and crust layers. While weak layers at upper and lower elevations are slightly different, both are capped by a new slab formed by the most recent series of storms. Those storms started around February 11 and ended on Thursday with dense, cohesive snow. In one snowpit, the new slab was 80cm thick, although on average it was less.
