We did some skiing at Chief Pascal today. Climbed from Km 16 parking lot to the NW Ridge just to the end of the treeline (2.000m). At that point we skied down NE to the new avalanche path and then W to pick up the logging road back to the car. We were thinking on maybe going higher to the alpine through the ridge but after doing two quick compression test decided that the conditions were not safe for steeper skiing. The temperature was -3C at the parking and colder in the alpine with the windchill. -COMPRESSION TEST- 1.947 meters - NE aspect - Just below the ridge line, little shelter from spread trees - 30 degree slope - Broken skies - Winds 25 to 30k/h from SW - Temperature below -5C Results: 1st Test: CTH21 Sudden planar. SURFACE HOAR. Up to 10mm crystals .60cm down. 2nd Test: CTE7 Sudden Planar. Stellars. 3mm. 25cm down. CTM12 Sudden Planar. SURFACE HOAR. Up to 10mm crystals. 60cm down. Hopefully the next pineapple express washes that out! Be safe out there.
