Quick report
Rain transitioned to snow around 5500' at 0900. Dug a pit on N aspect at 6100', HS128. 6cm of new snow over 20cm of firm supportable crust, with softer moist mixed forms (rounds and poly clusters) below. Pit snow stability tests showed a weak problematic layer just below a harder layer where water was pooling roughly 70cm from surface (CT14SP and ECT16). However, deeper instabilites are bridged by the stout, supportable, near surface crust and will only come into play if warm rain softens the crust to the point that deeper penetration is possible. We observed a wet slab crown across Burke Canyon, on the ridge above French Gulch to Granite Ridge, probably D1.5.
